The Athens to Paros ferry is operated by five ferry companies: Blue Star Ferries, Seajets, Minoan Lines, Golden Star Ferries and Cyclades Fast Ferries - more commonly known as 'Fast Ferries'. This route connects Athens to the Cyclades and you can take your car on this route or travel as a foot passenger. This route is offered by fast craft and conventional ferries.

From Athens you can travel from the port of Piraeus, the port of Rafina and also the port of Lavrio.

From Rafina the average sailing time is 5 hours and 10 minutes, from Piraeus the average sailing time is 4 hours and 10 minutes while from Lavrio the sailing time is 7 hours and 30 minutes. From Rafina the quickest crossing is with Golden Star Ferries and lasts 4 hours. From Piraeus the quickest crossing is with Seajets and lasts 3 hours and 20 minutes. From Lavrio there is only one service and the sailing time is 7 hours and 30 minutes.

Crossings from Athens to Paros, from Rafina, Piraeus and Lavrio, are available throughout the whole year. In the high season there are about 57 crossings per week.

From Rafina, the distance is 158.2 kilometres, that's about 98 miles or 85 nautical miles. From Piraeus, the distance is 166 kilometres, that's about 103 miles or 90 nautical miles. From Lavrio, the distance is 1120 kilometres, that's about 75 miles or 65 nautical miles. However, the exact distance may depend on the route you take. The average price is for one person by foot in the summer is about 30 euros. For foot passengers travelling one way the the cheapest average price is from Lavrio at about 20 euros. From Piraeus the average price is 38.50 euros and from Rafina the average price is 29 euros.

If you are taking your car one way the cheapest average price is from Rafina at 64 euros, 83 euros from Lavrio and 127.50 euros from Piraeus.

Can I get an e-ticket for ferries on this route?

Where can I collect my tickets?

If an e-ticket is not available you can print your ticket at the following locations:

Piraeus: Central agencies for all ferry companies are conveniently located on the main street near the port. Additionally, in the port neat the departure gates, you will find ticket booths where you can have your tickets (boarding passes) printed.

Rafina: There are several travel agencies in Kamares, at the port of Rafina. Look at the signage of each office to easily locate the central agency of the ferry company you are travelling with. They will be open prior to your departure times.

Lavrio: There are two travel agencies at the port of Lavrio. They will be open prior to your departure time.

Can I take my dog or cat with me?

Yes, you can take your dog or other pet on the ferry but it isn't possible to book a space in the kennel in advance. All Greek ships by law must have some kennel space.

On conventional ferries
If you are travelling on conventional ferry (not a fast ferry or catamaran) there is normally space available in the kennels and you should also be able to have your dog on all deck areas (but not inside) with you. Strictly speaking, this at the discretion of the ferry company but in general you should have no issues - though please take a muzzle with you just in case and keep your dog on a leash at all times. Small sized dogs and cats can travel in the ship as long as they stay inside a special travel box.

The other option, for absolute peace of mind, is to book a pet cabin. These are like normal cabins but have linoleum flooring. They are also available for day crossings at reasonable prices. This way you don't have to worry about finding space in the kennels and you and your dog or cat can relax. In July and August ferries can get very busy with people and other dogs.
On fast ferries or catamarans
Fast ferries and catamarans will also have kennels but these will be limited in number. In addition, the majority of fast ferries (though there are exceptions) don't have open deck space accessible throughout the journey, so you will not be able to stay out with your pet during your crossing. However, if your pet is small and inside a travel box you will be able to keep him or her inside.

Can I pay by PayPal or debit card?

Can I take my bicyle with me and what do I have to do?

You can take your bike with you for FREE from Athens to Paros, if you travel on large ships such as those from the company Blue Star Ferries. However, on ships without a garage, bicycles are normally not allowed inside. You'll see if the ship has a garage when making your reservation. Athens can be busy in the summer so it is a good idea to tell a member of the port staff that you have a bike in case you might need extra assistance.
